I’m one of those whose work calendar tends to fill up with meetings of all sorts. Some meetings I ignore, others I attend, and many of them I’m organizing myself. For me, although I do prefer asynchronous communication with email and chat for mamy things, meetings are critical for communication. And communication is key for collaboration.

When one grows in their role, or when one’s impact on the organization is significant, I find it natural that such members receive many invites for meetings. The key people need to be aligned and make sure that everyone is working in the same direction.

It sounds strange to me when someone complains that they have too many meetings. After all, attending a meeting is, at least usually, a choice and not a mandate.

But maybe it’s not about the meetings after all. Even some of the most talented artists choose to go solo as they’re unable to play as a member of a band.
